The Czech was up against Slovakian Polona Hercog whom she defeated 6-1, 6-2 and then overpowered compatriot Kristyna Pliskova 7-6(4), 6-2 to move into the 3rd round.

Maria Sakkari reaches the 3rd round of the US Open for 3rd year running and similar to Petra, she is yet to drop a set this week in New York. Maria defeated Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-3 and then defeated Czech player Katerina Siniakova 6-4, 6-2 to set up a meeting with another Czech player in the 3rd round.
