Latest WTA rankings: Iga Swiatek holds more than 10,000 points, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff retain their positions

The Top-3 on the WTA Tour remains unchanged with multiple swaps in the Top-10 owing to the results in Dubai.


Latest WTA rankings: Iga Swiatek holds more than 10,000 points, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff retain their positions

The WTA Tour continues to see Iga Swiatek remain as the World No. 1. The four-time Grand Slam singles champ successfully defended her Qatar Open title for the second consecutive year retaining the 1000 points.

Tailing the Pole are 2024 Australian Open champ Aryna Sabalenka who’s comfortably placed on the second spot. American youth icon and 2023 US Open winner Coco Gauff occupies the third spot to cap off the Top-3 rankings on the Tour.

The week of February 19th had only one event on the Tour, the WTA-1000 event Dubai Open. Barbora Krejcikova was the defending champ but was forced to withdraw. Italy’s Jasmine Paolini secured her maiden WTA-1000 title and second career title by defeating qualifier Anna Kalinskaya in the finals.

Sabalenka suffered a shocking second-round defeat denting her chances to close the gap on Swiatek. The Pole made it to the semis before frustratingly losing to Kalinskaya and throwing her racket in a rare outburst. Gauff made it to the quarter-finals but was also knocked out by the Russian.

Jasmine Paolini and Anna Kalinskaya are the biggest movers this week

Following the updation of the rankings, Maria Sakkari re-entered the Top-10 rising two places to become the World No. 9. Marketa Vondrousova and Qinwen Zheng swapped places that saw the Czech rise to World No. 7.

Sakkari’s promotion meant Jelena Ostapenko moved down to the World No. 10 losing one place. Both Paolini and Kalinskaya made big jumps to reach their respective career-high rankings.

The Italian jumped 12 places to become World No. 14. Kalinskaya rose 16 places to occupy the 24th spot on the rankings. Magdalena Frech was another big mover this week rising 11 places to become World No. 42 achieving her career-high as well.
