Iga Swiatek, Barbora Krejcikova, Paula Badosa - Top 3 of the WTA Rankings post the Miami Open 2022

The Miami Open has just finished and the after-effects post the matches still linger. But what is more exciting after the tournament is the shift in the rankings. While some new players have risen to higher rankings, some have failed to move higher, while some slipped below in their ranking. The end of the Miami open signalled the end of the hardcourt season and the beginning of the clay-court season. From record-breaking to drama-filled, March had it all.

World no.1 Iga Swiatek completed the tournament in style. She won the tournament which is the first feat that she has achieved since getting the news of becoming the new world no.1. Swiatek defeated Naomi Osaka in the finals proving that the 20-year old player has certainly proved herself to be worthy of being the world no. 1 and a worthy successor of Ash Barty.

Meanwhile, some of the other players who have risen in ranks include Paula Badosa the Spanish player who has become world no. 3 and came up to the quarterfinals of the Miami Open.

The emergence of Linda Fruhvirtova was also a major revelation. The 16-year-old captured all the headlines when she knocked out Belarusian former world number 1 Victoria Azarenka in the round of 32 in the Miami Open. The Czech Republic player was initially a 279th ranked player but moved up and is now ranked 188th in the world.

Emma Raducanu had another early exit in Miami. The World No. 12 just can’t seem to get far in tournaments now and would sincerely hope for a change in fortunes as the clay-court season approaches. After the Miami Open, she has been able to hold onto her ranking and not moved higher up or lower.
