World No.2 Daniil Medvedev is currently playing in the ATP Acapulco 2022. The star saved himself a place in the semifinals by knocking out Yoshihito Nishioka in the quarterfinals with the score of 6-2, 6-3. In the semifinals, he will face off former World No.1 and Australian Open 2022 champion Rafael Nadal. Both the stars will clash for the second time this season, they first met in the finals of the Aussie Open 2022 where Rafa defeated Daniil after a tedious 5 set match.
World No.2 will soon take a leap in its ranking and will be the new World No.1 replacing Novak Djokovic who is currently ranked as World No.1. Novak got knocked out in his recent match with Jiri Vesely in the quarter-finals of ATP Dubai Tennis Championships 2022.
Coach speaks about Medvedev’s achievement
Coach Gilles Cervara has also shared his joy about Daniil’s achievement. He thanked and paid tribute to everyone who was a part of this victory of the star. “I have big thoughts and the desire to pay a worthy tribute to the entire hard core of Daniil’s team who have been working on a daily basis since 2017: Éric Hernandez (physics), Yann Le Meur (sport scientist) and Francisca Dauzet (performance accompanist).”
“With a very pronounced tribute to Francisca who has done such exceptional work on a decisive dimension for an athlete, who still has to develop more systematically and professionally in high-level sport. Francisca’s work and know-how have made it possible to concretize the “technical” work done on a daily basis as well as Daniil’s potential,” he said.
“A tribute, too, to the people in the medical sector who work or have worked with us – Carl Willems, Gaëtan Baudet, Paul Lochelongue, Bernard Nivet, Louis Fresneau – and who also work on a daily basis. And then, finally, a tribute to the pilot that is Daniil. It’s a chance to live with him on a daily basis and to see what he is capable of doing in his uniqueness,” he further added.
