The 19-year-old Canadian was expected to perform well at the US Open, however, no one would have predicted before the start of the tournament that she will deliver such a magical performance at the final Grand Slam of the season.
The youngster has left no stone unturned in making a name for herself at the biggest stage by bamboozling the best in the business, one after the other. Moreover, Leylah had to face players like Naomi Osaka, Elina Svitolina, Aryna Sabalenka, etc in order to reach where she is and it would be fair to say, that she has truly earned her place in the finals.

Leylah, who is from Canada, has been coached by her father Jorge Fernández, an immigrant to went to Canada at the age of 14. Jorge, in a recent interaction, had a few things to say about his daughter’s emphatic performances at the US Open 2021.
Jorge claimed that his blood is not red, but tricolor as he loves and admires his home country, Ecuador, to a great extent. He added that he constantly reminds his daughters to fall in love and respect their country. Leylah also claimed in an interaction after her semi-final triumph over Sabalenka that a lot of credit for her success goes to her father.
“My father has told me about everything, many things. He has told me to have fun, to fight for each point, to enjoy it,” the Canadian superstar claimed. Leylah has been in scintillating touch in the tournament and the fact that she has won games after games in tense situations, makes her a front runner for the title win.
