Novak Djokovic clinched his fourth US Open Men’s singles title on Sunday. The Serb went head-to-head with World No.3, Daniil Medvedev in the finals. He won the face-off, winning in straight sets against the 2021 Champion. Djokovic had a fantastic run this year. He won three Majors in 2023, which include the Australia Open, the French Open, and the US Open. The 36-year-old lost to then World No.1, Carlos Alcaraz in the finals of Wimbledon.
Djokovic played at the Flushing Meadows after a gap of two years. The Serb was not allowed to play last year on grounds of his vaccination status. With his historic win at the last Slam of the year, Djokovic has shattered several records.
Djokovic was able to win the first set despite the long rallies he was forced to play by his opponent. This allowed Medvedev to put up a tough fight against the Serb in the second set, but Novak wasn’t going to let him slide through. With his strategic gameplay, the 36-year-old took down his Russian opponent, avenging his title loss to him two years prior.
