Former World No. 1 Roger Federer‘s foreword read the comeback of the 20-time grand slam champion and the fabulous auction of 320 items that raised a whopping 3.9 million Swiss francs for the Roger Federer Foundation that has worked immensely in various parts and are one of Roger’s most philanthropic work.

Since last July 2021, Federer has been out of the pro game due to reoccurring injuries, forcing him to take a long and painful hiatus. As soon as he announced his return, all the Federer fans have been desperately awaiting the Wimbledon champion to make a solid comeback to win his 21st grand slam.

The Swiss legend started by claiming, “It was once more a year full of restrictions, changes and uncertainty. However, it’s in my nature to bring a positive outlook on the year. I am proud to share three unique highlights.” Despite facing one hardship after another, Federer has always remained calm and composed and always believed in being optimistic.

He continued, “After many months of battling injury, my return to the tour in March, after my first operation, highlighted and energized me to continue my tennis career. I’m grateful for every minute I was able to spend with my fans and tennis family on the court.”

Federer has often gotten frustrated on the court, but he never let that get to him. Having the chance to play again professionally and feel the thrill of playing in front of hundreds of fans and facing challenging opponents has ultimately motivated him. “My experience in Doha illustrated to me that my journey as an elite athlete isn’t over yet. The progress I make every day strengthens my belief that I will be healthy and strong enough to return to the tennis court at the highest level.”

In June, an Auction up for grabs of all of Federer’s outfits, racquets, and shoes well stored and catalogued by his wife Mirka helped raise 3.9 million francs. “Another highlight was our auction of 320 items of memorabilia by Christie’s auction house in support of the Roger Federer Foundation. It was a major task that was primarily overseen by my wife, Mirka. These proceeds complemented the numerous and generous donations from our loyal supporters, friends, and sponsors.”

For the first time, the foundation received more than 10 million Swiss francs in donations last year. This was a significant step up for the initiative taken by the Swiss champion. “Especially in these times of crisis, this solidarity cannot be taken for granted and I would like to thank all our donors form the bottom of my heart,” said Federer.
