Feliciano Lopez vs Adrian Mannarino : Preview
Feliciano Lopez moves into the first quarter-final of the season as he registers his 500th career win during his 2nd round victory over Karen Khachanov. Lopez defeated Khachanov 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in front of his home crowd at the inaugural Grass tournament held in Mallorca.
Lopez is playing his 3rd Grass tournament of the season after having played previously at the ATP Stuttgart Open 2021 and later at the Queen’s Club 2021. In both the tournaments he was defeated in the 2nd round denying him a chance to make it into the last-8.
Adrian Mannarino advances into his 2nd quarter-final of the season after having played his first at the 2021 Singapore Open. Mannarino had an early wrap to his match against Dominic Thiem who had to retire mid-match in the first set when he was leading 5-2 due to a wrist injury that forced him out.
Mannarino is also playing his 3rd tournament on Grass this season and similar to Lopez, played at the Stuttgart Open and then at the Queen’s Club losing in the 1st and 2nd round respectively.
Feliciano Lopez vs Adrian Mannarino : Head to Head
This will be the 4th meeting between the duo and 2nd on Grass. They last met in the 1st round of the 2017 Wimbledon where Mannarino won the match after Lopez retired in the 4th set. This remains the only victory for Adrian against Lopez, as Lopez won all 3 of their previous matches and leads the head-to-head tie 2-1.
Feliciano Lopez vs Adrian Mannarino : Prediction
Mannarino will come into the clash with a 76-48 record on Grass across his career while having a poor season record of 8-16 across all surfaces. With Thiem’s injury giving him a chance, Adrian will look to make the most of this opportunity to advance ahead and try for the title before entering the Wimbledon 2021.
Feliciano has a career Grass record of 90-46 and an overall season record of 8-11 having struggled for form and consistency due to injuries throughout the season. However, with his 500th win and a chance for the title in front of his home crowd, the local boy will be favourite to win this clash and move into the semi-finals.
Prediction: Feliciano Lopez to win in straight-sets.
