Russian superstar, Daniil Medvedev has returned to the tour this month following a shocking exit from the Indian Wells at the hands of Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round. Now, with his eyes on the defense of his Paris and ATP Finals titles, the World No.2 looks in good touch despite a minor hiccup against Ilya Ivashka in the second round of the Paris Masters.

A tough contest followed against rising American Sebastian Korda thereafter, where the Russian had to come back from a set down to clinch a three-setter, and in the quarter-finals, Medvedev had his hands full with Hugo Gaston and the French crowd but prevailed as if unbothered by it. Back in the semi-finals now, the Russian will be setting his sights on back-to-back Bercy titles.

The season got off to a good start for Alexander Zverev, winning titles at Acupulco and Madrid, as well as making the quarter-finals at the Australian Open and semi-finals at the French Open. Zverev won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, defeating Novak Djokovic en-route and looked in ominous form.

The German fourth seed comes into the Paris Masters after a claiming the title at the Vienna Open last week despite a relatively slow start.

After a routine win against Dusan Lajovic in his opener here, Zverev was in a tight third round match against 2017 ATP Tour Finals winner Grigor Dimitrov, where the German prevailed in a decider. Later on Friday, Zverev met Casper Ruud. The result was a competitive, but straight-sets victory for the World No.4.

World No.2, Daniil Medvedev has had a strong season already having led Russia to an ATP Cup win, being runner-up at the Australian Open and winning titles at Marseille, Mallorca and Toronto in addition. To top it all he was the US Open champion earlier this year.

The season got off to a good start for Zverev as well, winning titles at Acupulco and Madrid, as well as making the quarter-finals at the Australian Open and semi-finals at the French. Zverev won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, defeating Novak Djokovic en-route and looked in ominous form winning the  Cincinnati Masters soon after.

In what may well be the best match-up of the tournament, it is hard to pick a winner here. Both players have been in excellent form for large portions of the season and have unambiguously led the field after Novak Djokovic at the top.

It will be down to the better player on the day and who executes the key points better.

Prediction: Medvedev to prevail in three sets.
