‘Mentally Tough’ Muguruza scripts an incredible comeback, defeats Ons Jabeur to win Chicago Fall Classic title

Gabrine Muguruza is a name to reckon with in the world of tennis. The superstar from Spain made her way into the finals of the Chicago Fall Classic 2021 by going past all her opponents in an emphatic fashion. However, in the finals, she had to take on Ons Jabeur who was thrashing everyone in her path.
Sixth-seeded Jabeur who had already defeated top-seeded Elina Svitolina and fifth-seeded Elena Rybakina in her last two clashes started the finals in an incredible fashion. She won the first set without any trouble started the second set in a similar fashion.

However, what transpired after that took everyone by surprise. All of a sudden, Muguruza came into her own and started winning games after games. She brilliantly counter-attacked and caught Jabeur off guard on several occasions. The score after completion of the second set was 3-6, 6-3 in Muguruza’s favor.
Post that, Muguruza completely took charge and thrashed Jabeur in the final set. Such was the Spaniard’s domination in the third set and she bageled the Tunisian and took home the coveted trophy after scripting one of the most incredible comebacks of all time.
After the win, Muguruza said, “I had to be very strong mentally, I suffered that first set, that it didn’t go my way. I just said, ‘OK, this is tennis. I’ve got another set and if I win it, I have another opportunity.’ I definitely gave it all.” The champion went on to add that one has to give in everything during the final moments to win a high-pressure clash like this.
“It was the final, the moment you have to give everything in the tank,” Muguruza claimed. “Forcing that decider set gave me all the energy to kind of jump in the score and dominate that third set,” the two-time Grand Slam champion further added.
