Western & Southern Open 2021: Andy Murray defeated in straight sets by Hubert Hurkacz

Andy Murray

Former World No. 1 tennis star Andy Murray hasn’t been at his best in recent times. After missing the action for a long time due to recurring injuries, Murray was pushed out of the top 100 rankings. The British tennis player tried making a comeback in the Cincinnati Open but to no avail.

Murray started off well at the Western and Southern Open by winning his first encounter against Richard Gasquet in an emphatic style. He cornered Gasquet right from the word go and gave him no chance of making a comeback. However, Murray couldn’t repeat his performance in the second-round clash against Hubert Hurkacz.

In his second round, Murray took on Polish tennis star Hubert Hurkacz. Hubert has been in sensational form this year. The Polish had already defeated Roger Federer earlier this year and he looked in ominous touch in his first game in the Cincinnati Open as well.

Hubert looked confident from the beginning against Murray and succeeded in putting the Brit under pressure in the first set. Although Murray made a comeback and the set went into the tie-breaker, Hubert kept his cool and somehow managed to defeat Murray in the first set.

The Polish star never looked back after the opening set. He dominated Murray in the second set and ended up winning the contest in straight sets by 7-6, 6-3. This win will definitely boost the morale of Hubert Hurkacz who has done well consistently this year but hasn’t managed to cross the line in big knockout games.
