“My eyes won’t stop crying, my heart won’t stop bleeding” Elina Svitolina pens down an emotional letter to her Motherland Ukraine
Elina Svitolina
Elina Svitolina has been one of the most active Ukrainian sports personalities since the Ukraine Russia war started a few days ago. While Elina herself is not present in the country, she has been seeking support and prayers from people hoping that the war in Ukraine ends and the Russian aggression stops that has torn the country into a war.
The former World No. 3 has been sharing messages of donation drives in order to contribute in some way to her fellow Ukrainians who are stuck in the war in the protection of their motherland. Elina took to her Twitter handle to write an open letter to Ukraine and its people sharing her emotions and pledging to donate all of her prize money in her next tournaments towards humanitarian needs for the Ukrainians affected by the war.
“Letter to my Motherland, I am currently far away from You, out of sight from my loved ones, far from my people, but my heart has never felt so warm and filled of Your soul. It is difficult to express how special You are. To me, You are strong, beautiful and unique. You gave me everything and I cherish every piece of You: your culture, your education, your lands, your seas, your cities, your people. My people.
“My people, every day I fear for you. I am devastated, my eyes won’t stop crying, my heart won’t stop bleeding. But I am so proud. See our people, our mothers, our fathers, our brothers, our sisters, our children, they are so brave and strong, fighting to defend You. They are heroes. I commit to redistribute the prize money of my next tournaments to support the army and humanitarian needs and help them to defend You, our country.
“Ukraine, You unify us, You are our identity, You are our past and our future. We are Ukraine. MAY THE WORLD SEE IT AND HELP US TO JOIN FORCES TO PROTECT YOU. You are in all my thoughts and prayers. You are always with me. I am Ukraine. We are Ukraine,” wrote ‘Elina Svitolina, a proud Ukrainian,’ writing the letter in English and Ukrainian.
Elina Svitolina makes no announcement on her future tournaments
Having suffered a shocking first-round exit in the WTA-1000 Qatar Open 2022, Elina has not yet commented on where does she intend to play next given the war has begun in her homeland and it is obvious the player won’t be able to fully focus on her game. However, as per the WTA calendar, the next tournament for Elina will most likely be the 2022 Indian Wells Open set to begin on 10th March in California.
