Francisco Cerundolo
Little did Francisco Cerundolo know he would reach the semis of Miami Open 2022 when he entered the tournament. The Argentinian who has never won any major titles has managed to beat Tiafoe in round 16 and moved on to the quarter-finals to play against Italian player Jannik Sinner but the latter had to retire from the game due to a foot injury.
When asked to comment on what he felt, the tennis player said, ” It’s everything I’ve dreamed of… This is gonna change everything for me”
The semi Finalist is extremely happy with the news
The tweet which was posted on 31st March has hundreds of likes and retweets already. Some of the comments by fans include “Jokes aside, Francisco deserves this. What a week,” Said one fan
Another fan commented, “Congrats. Long Overdue”
The Argentinian will next face Casper Rudd in the semis who beat German player Alexander Zverev to reach the semis. The most significant victory of Francisco Cerundolo is when Gael Monfils a French player and world no. 24 in knockout in straight sets. The final score of the match was 6-2, 6-3. When asked about his match against Sinner, he said,
“It’s like playing in Argentina,” Cerundolo said after his 4-1 win over Sinner in the quarterfinals. “Yesterday, I played an American guy [Tiafoe], and I think more people were cheering for me than for him. So, it was really weird.”
“I love to play with my Argentine people, Latin people, it’s fantastic. It brings my best inside the court. Nowhere else in the world, except Argentina, am I feeling this at home.”
This is not the first the Argentinian tennis player has showcased his potential. The player has beat Miomir Kecmanovic, a fellow tennis player in the Miami Open with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in the Rio Open. Ironically, he got through the knockout rounds when Casper Rudd had to withdraw from the match. They will be battling each other for a spot in the finals. He goes on to go to the semi-finals where he loses against fellow countryman Diego Schwartzman.
This shows that the player has a lot of potentials and only has the ability to grow more. The tournament serves as a stepping stone in his career as a chance to polish and develop his skills. By playing in the tournament he will also have the mental ability to face his opponents in the future.
Do you think he has a chance to reach the finals or even win the finals?
