2024 Miami Open: Preview and Order of play for March 21st featuring Maria Sakkari, Elena Rybakina, and Gael Monfils

The third day of the main draw of the 2024 Miami Open will see women’s singles second-round matches being played while the remaining men’s singles first-round matches are played. Top WTA stars including 2024 Indian Wells Open finalist Maria Sakkari, World No. 4 Elena Rybakina, and Danish tennis veteran Caroline Wozniacki in action. Meanwhile, Frenchman Gael Monfils will also take center stage.

Apart from the big names, rising Chinese star and 2024 Australian Open runner-up Qinwen Zheng will also play her first match at the 2024 Miami Open. Jelena Ostapenko, Veronika Kudermetova, and Katie Boulter are the other top players who will be in action on Day 3.

Matches to watch out for on Day 3 of 2024 Miami Open

Maria Sakkari vs. Yue Yuan

Two-time Indian Wells Open finalist and eighth seed Maria Sakkari will open her Miami Open campaign against Chinese WTA star Yue Yuan. The 25-year-old Chinese reached the quarterfinals at the 2024 Indian Wells Open and will be high on confidence.

Meanwhile, Sakkari will be aiming to start her campaign with a dominant win. The Greek ace is expected to topple Yuan but it won’t be that easy considering the Chinese has also been doing well in the past few months.

Clara Tauson vs. Elena Rybakina

Fourth seed Elena Rybakina will be making a comeback to the tour after missing out on the Indian Wells Open due to injury. The Kazakh ace will be eager to start her campaign with a win. She will be up against Clara Tauson of Denmark.

Rybakina is expected to ease past her opponent and book a place in the third round. Meanwhile, Tauson who beat American Caroline Dolehide in the opening round will be hoping to push the World No. 4 to her limits.

Dusan Lajovic vs. Gael Monfils

French veteran Gael Monfils will open his campaign at the 2024 Miami Open against Serbian Dusan Lajovic. The 38-year-old had a great outing at the Indian Wells Open where he beat the likes of Hubert Hurkacz and Cameron Norrie to make it to the fourth round.

Monfils will hope to get off to a flying start here in Miami as well. The Frenchman leads Lajovic 2-0 in their head-to-head record and there is a chance for Monfils to further extend the lead.

Anhelina Kalinina vs. Caroline Wozniacki

Caroline Wozniacki started her campaign at the 2024 Miami Open with a dominant win over France’s Clara Burel. The Danish ace thrashed her opponent 6-1, 6-4 in the first-round clash.

She will next face Anhelina Kalinina in the next round. The Ukrainian, seeded 32nd at the Masters tournament will pose a stern challenge for Wozniacki who has not faced Kalinina in her career so far. However, the Dane is expected to sail through to the third round.
