Australian player Nick Kyrgios who has been away for almost the whole year of 2023, recently hinted at retiring from the sport at the UTS (Ultimate Tennis Showdown) in Los Angeles. Nick had opened up in the past about his abuse of alcohol and partying excessively even while on tour and competing and also opened up about his mental health struggles.
The Aussie has missed out on all three slams this year due to injuries and he made the final of the Wimbledon last year and ended up as the runner-up after losing to Novak Djokovic.
Now in a conversation with his fellow tennis players Frances Tiafoe and Jeremy Chardy who were present at the UTS, the Aussie made some interesting comments. Nick says he feels the schedule is out of control and he feels at this point in time he just feels tired and he does not see himself playing and traveling for the next five years of time.
With all the drinking and partying he feels like he is 57 years old. “The schedule is out of control. Just old bro I’m getting old. I’m 28 years old, yeah. But like all the drinking and partying I’m like 57’,” said Nick.
When asked if he sees himself competing and traveling in five years he said absolutely not and that once he’s gone no one will see him again. ‘’I promise you when I’m gone, you’ll never see me again. I think I might just coach.’’ said the Aussie. He even joked about how even though he has no coach, he might coach Tiafoe once he’s retired.

While Nick Kyrgios had one of the best runs of his career last year. He won his first grand slam doubles title with fellow Aussie player and his best friend Thanasi Kokkinakis despite doubles not being his main priority. He went on to make the finals of Wimbledon and although he had a successful run last year, the Aussie missed out on all three majors this year due to injuries. There is no news or updates about him being seen in the US Open either.
In the past, Nick has revealed his struggles with his mental health, and now in the Netflix documentary series ‘The Break Point’ he went in depth to talk about how he has been dealing with depression, anxiety, and his abuse of alcohol. He even said he was so low he was contemplating suicide at one point and that he was admitted to a psychiatry ward in London.
