“78 on iMessage and then 80 on WhatsApp!” Emma Raducanu candidly reveals how her phone flooded with messages after beating Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka

It looks like out of nowhere, Emma Raducanu has finally found her groove. Within the span of 24 hours, the British teenager has defeated two former World No.1s and multiple grand slam champions, Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka. On Tuesday night, Raducanu eased past Serena in straight sets 6-4,6-0, and then on Wednesday, she hammered Azarenka in straight sets 6-0,6-2 to become the first woman to consecutively bagel to former World No.1s.
Needless to say, this comes as a surprise to many given Raducanu’s poor form throughout the year. In the press conference, she was asked how many congratulatory messages she received after beating the two legends. Raducanu couldn’t hold back her smile and said she got a lot of messages but she couldn’t go through them all because she wanted to stay focused on the upcoming matches.
“Yeah, a lot of messages, a lot,” she said. “But I couldn’t reply or go through all of them. Yeah, I always feel a bit bad, but, yeah, I’m trying to just stay really focused, and that definitely helped.”
“I didn’t open many messages last night and this morning, just a few people. I haven’t really looked at my phone. An hour later, right before I came in, I needed to call my physio, and I just saw the messages, didn’t open. I was, like, I’ve just got to focus (smiling),” she said.

‘I’m an awful texter’: Emma Raducanu
When asked about the number of messages she got, she candidly said about 100 and then paused for a moment before revealing that there were about 78 messages on iMessage and 80 on Whatsapp. She added that amongst her friends, she’s known to be an awful texter. She added that she feels bad when she couldn’t reply to all of it.
“Probably like a hundred,” Raducanu said. “No, like — yeah. I mean, like, 78 on iMessage and then like 80 on WhatsApp or something.” I’m an awful texter. I think I’m known for it. To my friends, at least,” she added. “But I feel bad, but I just — like when you get so many messages, it’s tough to reply to all of them. Yeah, it’s something that’s kind of just happened.”
Raducanu will now face American No.1 Jessica Pegula in the Round of 16 of the 2022 Cincinnati Open. Pegula will go in as the favorite but given Raducanu’s chance, she will fancy her chances to go deep in Cincinnati.
