Coco Gauff was crowned the new US Open champion, successfully ousting her Belarussian opponent, Aryna Sabalenka, out of the way. After her maiden Grand Slam triumph, Gauff had some lovely words for her father.
Coco Gauff kept her head in the game throughout her final-round match with soon-to-be World No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka. Though she lost the first set, the teenager made a strong comeback to beat Sabalenka, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
That’s not all, Coco Gauff made history, beating Karolina Muchova in the Cincinnati Finals to clinch her first Masters 1000 title. As the fans of the 19-year-old rejoiced over her win, a video of Coco at the 2012 US Open resurfaced and has been making the rounds on the Internet.
Gauff managed to beat the runner-up at this year’s French Open, Muchova, in straight sets. She claimed the biggest title of her career yet with her win over the now-world No. 10 player, according to the WTA Rankings. The American secured the title with a 6-3, 6-4 win over her Czech opponent in a match that lasted a little short of two hours.
As the teen prodigy prepares to take on the upcoming US Open, a video of Gauff from the kid’s day at the 2012 US Open has been circulating on social media. The video shows an eight-year-old Gauff jumping and dancing as part of the crowds as music fills the stadium.
A translated version of a tweet posted by one of the users, originally in French, read, “When you win your first WTA 1000 at 19, a week before the US Open.” The user posted a video and further mentioned that it was Gauff at “8 years old during the Kids’ Day of the US Open 2012.” The teenager who managed to reach the 2022 finals at the French Open will now prepare for the Grand Slam tournament next week.

After her big victory at the Western & Southern Open this year, Coco Gauff will be one to look out for at the upcoming US Open next week. Gauff’s immense potential was on display last year as she powered through the French Open and managed to reach the finals paired up with her former Double’s partner, Jessica Pegula.
The American has also managed to reach the Quarter-finals of the US Open previously in the years 2021 and 2019. Having won her first Masters 1000 title as well as the Citi Open in Washington this year, fans can expect Gauff to perform better than ever, gaining confidence from the titles she earned this year.
