A Danish Dream! Holger Rune stuns Stefanos Tsitsipas to enter the quarterfinal at his French Open debut

Stefanos Tsitsipas, one of the pre-tournament favorites of the French Open 2022, faced another rising teenage superstar, Holger Rune, in the fourth-round match in Paris. Rune came out all guns blazing to take the first set and the greek replied with a second set victory. Rune didn’t budge as he snatched the third set and has Stefanos Tsitsipas on the ropes. Rune didn’t let Tsitsipas escape as he finished the stupendous upset with the score 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Rune has chosen one of the biggest tournaments in the world to display his prowess and has shown a glimpse of his huge potential. Though Rune had been eclipsed by the fellow teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz, he has roared loudly at Stade Roland Garros as the young blood announced his arrival in Paris.

Holger Rune stunned the runner-up of 2021 French Open to enter the quarterfinal at Phillipe-Chatrier. It was an amazing performance as the Dane summed up in an on-court interview. He said:

” I have an unbelievable feeling right now. I was so nervous at the end, but the crowd was amazing for me the whole match, the whole tournament. I am so grateful and so happy to be playing on this court. You guys are amazing”

“I was very nervous but at the same time I know if you go away from the tactic against such a player like Tsitsipas, I am gonna lose for sure. I just told myself to keep hitting and play my plan and in the tough moments it worked out so well in the end it gave me a huge confidence boost “

The young phenom also pointed out his support system as he said: “I get so emotional when I talk about family and coaches, but we’re still in the quarterfinal, we didn’t win the tournament yet. My mom, my whole team up there is why I am here today, without them it would not have been possible. I am so grateful for them, to have such a great team helping me in tough situations, and good situation, so I am super grateful.”

Rune will meet Casper Ruud in an all-nordic quarterfinal as the youngster looks for a chance go further at the French Open 2022.
