A frustrated Stefanos Tsitsipas sarcastically thanks the organizers in Stockholm for not presenting a runners-up trophy as he loses a second Tour final this month

Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Greek World No.5 has lost his second Tour final today (October 24) against the 19-year-old Danish wonder-boy Holger Rune. Rune won the match 6-4, 6-4 to win his second Tour title. His frustration was evident during the trophy presentation ceremony.

I’m sick of the runners-up trophies I get over and over again, so thank the tournament for not giving any away here. Congratulations to Holger for stealing this from me, and to his team, who are doing a very good job, it is well deserved for today and for the future to come.

“We did several training sessions at the Mouratoglou Academy, and you played incredibly well. Keep it up. Stay humble and carry on“, (Translated via Google) says the Greek after the final loss during the Stockholm Open trophy ceremony.

This is the fifth loss for Tsitsipas in a final this season after Rotterdam, Rome, Cincinnati, and Astana. He already has enough runner-up trophies in his cabinet as this was his 15th final loss in the 24th final appearance of his meteoric career so far.

Current World No.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas is having a poor season considering the standard he is expected to show. His win-loss ratio is 56-20 as he has won 2 titles (ATP-1000 Monte Carlo ATP 1000, ATP-250 Mallorca) in 2022, but failed to show up in the Grand Slam tournaments.

His best run was at the semi-final at the Australian Open, where he lost to Daniil Medvedev in 4 sets. Out of the 20 losses this season, 5 were in the finals. Before today, the last loss was against the World No.7 Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic in the ATP-500 Astana Open Final a week ago.

Today’s loss against the Danish is more of a match-up dilemma. Holger Rune is already on the path to becoming a complete player. He was seen taking the balls early and was not allowing the Greeks any sort of rhythm.

This was their second match against each other and the Greek has now lost them both. The mentality and the grit of the Greek were seen lacking today similar to the finals against Borna Coric and Novak Djokovic in Cincinnati Open and Astana Open recently.
