Daria Kasatkina is the No.1 Russian player in singles. She did not play at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship owing to the ban on the Russian and Belarus players. She started the year on a good note entering the third round of the 2022 Australian Open but faced defeat against Iga Swiatek. Even at the 2022 French Open, she lost to Iga Swiatek in her first ever semifinal match. She is yet to reach a tournament final but has won 27 out of her 40 matches.

Recently, she made an announcement regarding her sexuality and claimed that living in Russia with her partner will be impossible as Russian laws and approach to same-gender issues is very harsh and intimidating. She expressed her desire by saying, “Living in peace with yourself is the only thing that matters, and fuck everyone else“.

Daria Kasatkina shared a story on her social media where she stood up for the struggles the Ukrainian people are going through and how tough it is to live in such conditions. She stated that “I can’t imagine what people in Ukraine or those who have relatives are going through. A nightmare. I don’t know what it is like to not have a home. Not because you haven’t one but because it was taken away from you.” The Russian player expressed her wish that the war ends and the people get rid of their struggles soon, upon being asked about what she desires now.

Former Ukrainian player Alexander Dolgopolov who could not achieve a single Grand Slam during his tenure but had unorthodox playing skills thanked the Russian star for coming out in the open and standing for the people of his country. He is grateful to the star that she could understand their pain and is hopeful that more people will stand up for their country.
