Daniil Medvedev returned from a successful hernia procedure, and the French Open is only his second tournament on clay. His first was the Geneva Open, where Medvedev lost to Richard Gasquet in straight sets in his opening round. Though clay is not Medvedev’s best surface, he had reached the quarterfinals last year at Roland-Garros without dropping a set. He had also reiterated that he feels that he has been doing well post-surgery.

Medvedev faced Facundo Bagnis, an Argentine ranked number 104, in his opening match of the French Open 2022. Bagnis has a career win-loss record of 34-69, and his best show has been at the Roland-Garros, where he has reached the second round three times, but things didn’t go his way with him facing the World number 2, who is still not at his best. Though he has done something noteworthy to begin the year. He beat the former world number one Andy Murray in Melbourne, who was admittedly out of shape.

But, Medvedev dashed his hopes of any miracles as he defeated Bagnis 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 to begin his French Open campaign in style.

The world number two made a roaring return at the Roland-Garros. He looks as good as ever as he swept off Facundo Bagnis to take a defeat the Argentine in straight sets. Things are starting to look good for Medvedev, who is trying to get back to the tour with a good performance at the Roland-Garros, as the Russian heads into the grass season. Though Medvedev will not be able to play the Wimbledon, he will try to rack up some grass-court tournaments and become the world number one, with Novak Djokovic taking a hit due to the ATP’s decision of removing the Wimbledon’s ranking points this year.

Medvedev will likely meet the Serbian Laslo Djere in the second round of the Roland-Garros as he buckles up to improve his performance from the last year in Paris. Medvedev has got an easier section of the draw, so he will be looking to make good use of the situation and get at least a semifinal appearance at Phillipe-Chatrier.
