“A wonderful game to a premature end” Twitter reacts as Alexander Zverev retires after suffering from a devastating injury in the Roland Garros semi-finals
Alexander Zverev and Rafael Nadal
Alexander Zverev had a forgettable day at the Roland Garros. It was always going to be a tough ask for the world No.3 to plat up against a 13-times french open winner Rafael Nadal. But after the first set, it seemed that the german was ready to do everything in his capability to push for a win.
He played an amazing first which went into an extended tie-break which Nadal ended up winning. In the second set, Zverev didn’t lose any of his mojo after the disappointment from set 1. He was matching every move of Nadal’s and making good progress.
That is when the only thing that could’ve possibly spoiled the match happened. Zverev’s foot got stuck in the clay and his foot rotated as the whole crowd and T.V. Audience heard a loud snap. Zverev collapsed on the court and yelled in pain.
The replay showed the horrific image of Zverev’s foot rotating in a very abnormal fashion. Nadal crossed the court and went towards his opponent as the medical staff tried to help Zverev. Finally, everyone decided it would be best for Sacha to take him in a wheelchair. Zverev was picked up and wheeled out of the court as the crowd waited to hear what was the condition Sacha was in.
Alexander Zverev receives mixed reactions after injury
Alexander Zverev after being wheeled out of the court made it back onto the court with the help of crutches. The german got a huge cheer from the crowd for making it out onto the court to oblige the audience for sitting back and congratulating Rafael Nadal for reaching a historic 14th final of his career.
Social media was shocked by the dramatic end to what could have been a perfect match worthy to be called the semi-final of a grand slam. However, as always there was a good and a bad side to the reactions that Zverev got on Twitter. People were still angry at the past record of Zverev and took this opportunity to mock him and make fun of him.
