Iga Swiatek is a professional tennis player who hails from Poland. She is currently ranked world No. 1 by the WTA. Swiatek has won the French Open on two occasions in her career in 2020 and 2022. After winning her first major in 2020, she became the first player representing Poland to win a major singles title. She became the youngest singles champion at the French Open since Rafael Nadal in 2005 and the youngest women’s singles champion at a major since Maria Sharapova in 2004.

The Polish international is all set to play her first match in the Poland Open on Monday where she will face her compatriot Magdalena Frech in the round of 32. The world No.1 will also be seen playing in the US Open which will begin on 29th  August and conclude on 13th September. This year’s French Open champion Swiatek will look to have two majors on her name in a calendar year but this time the polish will have to prove herself on the hard court.

Recently, Swiatek was seen organising a charity event in her native Poland to collect money for Ukrainian children and teenagers who are affected by the war. The Pole was successful as almost 10,000 people attended the charity match at Krakow’s Tauron Arena. She was able to count on the presence of Elina Svitolina, the former number 2 in the WTA ranking, Agnieszka Radwanska, the 2004 Ballon d’Or, Andriy Shevchenko, or even Sergiy Stakhovsky.

The charity event fetched in Polish zloty (Poland’s currency) 2 million which equals £422,000 in funds which will be allocated to three organizations that have been fundamental in providing relief to the most exposed sections of their population since the war broke out in Ukraine. Those three organisations are the Elina Svitolina foundation, United 24, and UNICEF Polska.

After the event was concluded, Swiatek briefed the press event, and she also insisted that she will keep on helping until the whole matter is resolved as a reminder for people across the globe.
