Adrian Mannarino, the 35-year-old player from France, will be locking horns with World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the fourth round of the 2024 Australian Open

After his third-round win over the USA’s Ben Shelton, Mannarino started trending for a hilarious reason.

A fan pointed out how Mannarino was wearing the same T-shirt and did not even change it after two sets like other players. The fan thinks the reason Mannarino wore a “self-brought” T-shirt is due to his not having a sponsor.

As expected, the tweet went viral, and other fans came in support of the Frenchman. Some fans joked about how Mannarino can now wear a different T-shirt as he banked a great sum of money after his third-round win over Shelton. 

While some others wrote that Mannarino wore a T-shirt sponsored by apparel company Lululemon. Notably, after his win over Shelton, Mannarino won $255,000 (approx.).

Mannarino had his second-round match with Quentin Halys in the men’s doubles event on Saturday (January 20).

However, they handed a walkover to their opponents, Jackson Withrow and Nathaniel Lammons. The pair of Mannarino and Halys defeated Julian Cash and Rober Galloway in the first round of the men’s doubles at the Australian Open.

Adrian Mannarino has never won a Grand Slam title yet but has reached the fourth round multiple times.

His face-off with Novak Djokovic will be the second time the Frenchman will be playing in the fourth round of the Australian Open. The last time he reached the round was in 2022.

Mannarino opened his campaign in the ongoing tournament with a thumping five-set win over Stan Wawrinka (6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0). The 35-year-old’s last two victories also did not come easily.

With a 6-3, 6-3, 1-6, 2-6, 6-3 score, Mannarino went past Jaume Munar in the second round before playing a grueling match against Ben Shelton. Shelton gave a tough fight to the No. 1 French player but lost the match (6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 4-6).

Mannarino has now set up his fourth-round match against first seed Djokovic on Sunday (January 21) at the Rod Laver Arena. Mannarino and the Serbian faced each other four times, with the latter winning all of those matches. In their last encounter back at the 2018 Cincinnati Open, Djokovic sent Mannarino packing with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
