In the Cincinnati Open‘s second round, world number two Novak Djokovic will face off against Alejandro Davidovich. They’ve met four times before, with Djokovic winning three of them. Davidovich Fokina, however, has high expectations for the match and believes that he will prevail thanks to his victory over the 23-time Grand Slam title champion in Monte Carlo last year.
Djokovic, on the other hand, is competing after almost two years on US soil. Before, the COVID rules prevented him from competing. But now that the COVID restrictions have been lifted, it will be interesting to watch his performance on the hard courts.
During an interview with ATP, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina opened up about Novak Djokovic. As per the tennis professional himself, Novak has everything that other tennis legends like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have. He said, “He has everything about Rafa and Federer. His body is so elastic, he can be very, very solid, and he has the weapons to push you to make errors. Then he has winners. He’s very good at serving.”
Continuing his train of thoughts, he further added, “But the key of his is that he sees the match very good. The moment of the match, he knows how to [judge what he needs to do] very good.”
With that being said, it will be interesting to see who advances to the next round as they will face off against each other for the first time this season.

Fokina grew up idolizing Djokovic and his accomplishments. These two players will face off against one another for the fifth time, and Fokina believes he understands how to defeat the World No. 2. Their most recent meeting took place in the second round of Monte Carlo in 2022, with the Spaniard defeating Djokovic 6-3, 5-7(5), 6-1.
In an interview with the ATP Fokina said, “I wanted to one day play against him and obviously if I can beat him, for me it would have been a dream. I think it is the same now. If I can win this match tomorrow, for me it’s a dream because in the end, you don’t win against these guys every day.”
He also added, “remember that I was dominating him very good. And in the middle of the second set, he broke me back. When he won the second set, he was on fire. But I just was [focussed] on being on court, to play against him and to be focussed on every ball.”
Fokina is excited about their fifth meet.
