Àlex Corretja, the former World No.2 player, has lavished praise for Daniil Medvedev. Daniil Medvedev recently won his first clay title as he beat Holger Rune at the 2023 Italian Open final. Medvedev was rock solid and impressive throughout the tournament. As a result, he will go into the 2023 Roland-Garros as the second seed.
Corretja was impressed by how the Russian has gotten comfortable on clay. Daniil Medvedev admitted that he was feeling great heading into the French Open. And Corretja too agreed with this notion. Talking on EuroSport, Corretja said, “He (Medvedev) is someone that you don’t know what to think is on his mind because he is saying things when maybe he feels different things.”
“I’m sure that playing against him as best of five is not going to be any easy. He has time to do different things and he’s got the patience. You need to be there for many hours to beat him, so you need to play very well if you want to be the best of five,” said Àlex Corretja highlighting the toughness and the calibre of Medvedev.
Àlex Corretja also called Medvedev a genius and an expert at mind games. Corretja said he always thought of Medvedev as a hard-court player, but the Russian’s recent performances on clay have impressed him immensely. Medvedev has adapted to clay and his mobility has improved a lot, which makes him a solid contender for the 2023 French Open.

People don’t recognize Daniil Medvedev while he is playing online games

While the Russian is winning hearts of the veterans of the game, he recently talked about how he is while playing games on his PlayStation. The 2021 US Open winner jokingly mentioned that he is not into trash-talking while playing video games, unlike his tennis game play. “No, I don’t do trash talk. The only thing, if someone, you know, sometimes I play shooting games, so sometimes when you don’t kill anyone in the back, some of the guys go crazy,” said Medvedev.
Medvedev also mentioned that he usually plays with his friends. Although when he plays with strangers on rare occasions, they never quite believe that it is actually him. It is natural that people playing games with a stranger don’t believe that a top athlete is also in their lobby.
