Former World No.1, Andy Murray and Alex de Minaur clashed recently at the first-round match at the ongoing China Open in Beijing. The Australian thrashed Murray over three sets in a match that lasted a total of 173 minutes. However, Minaur was not satisfied with his performance against Murray.
Andy Murray lost his first-round match, scoring 3-6, 7-5, 6-7. Though Murray lost the first set, he made a strong comeback in the second one to claim the set. In the third set as well, Murray led with a score of 5-2 over his Australian counterpart. He also had two match points in his pocket before the World No.12 made a strong return to the game, leaving no chance for Murray to make a comeback into the match.
“I think to be honest we both didn’t bring out best level today,” De Minaur said in a press conference following the match. “It was a scrap fest and was not pretty but I am happy I was able to get my first win in a long time when I have saved some match points.” However, the recent win marked his 5th successive win against Murray. The 24-year-old still expressed his dissatisfaction with his performance on-court.
Speaking further, Alex De Minaur talked about his comeback in the third set. “I kept my head screwed on and I told myself to keep trying and to keep backing myself and eventually I was going to find my level. I am very happy to turn that match around,” he said. With his recent win, De Minaur became only the fourth person to beat Murray in five consecutive matches. Previously, only the Big 3 had achieved this feat.
Andy Murray smashes his racket following 5th consecutive loss to Alex De Minaur
British tennis star, Andy Murray was left frustrated following his loss to Alex De Minaur in the opening round at the China Open. Murray was probably furious over his defeat given that he had won one set against the Australian and was leading in the third set with three match points against Minaur.

In a show of rage, Murray smashed his racket on the court after he was unable to control his emotions. He was seen smashing his racket repeatedly on the court in anger. For his actions, however, Murray did not get any violations. Alex De Minaur will now play his second-round match at the China Open against World No.2, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev tomorrow.
