“I had to play my best tennis”- Alexander Zverev annihilates Carlos Alcaraz’s fairytale run at the Roland-Garros
Alexander Zverev
Alexander Zverev has advanced to the French Open semifinals! On the Philippe-Chatrier court, the world number three defeated Carlos Alcaraz 6: 4, 6: 4, 4: 6 and 7: 6. (7). In the final of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid three weeks ago, Zverev was clearly beaten by the Spaniard in two sets.
Zverev, on the other hand, put up one of his greatest performances of the season in Paris. Following a balanced start, the Hamburg player broke for the first time in the fifth game, which he easily transferred to take the first set.

Carlos Alcaraz had a comparatively poor performance in this match at Roland-Garros, as he spent the majority of it below his greatest level. Zverev, on the other side, had his greatest match of the tournament and was able to win this match. He deserved it because he outplayed Alcaraz for the whole of the game. He received a lot of help from Alcaraz, who was having trouble with a lot of things at the start of the game.
His groundstrokes were off, his serving was mediocre, and his mobility was adequate, but Zverev did not give him many opportunities. The German was extremely consistent with his own serve, hitting it at a high rate and denying Alcaraz numerous opportunities. Carlos committed 16 unforced errors in the first set and another 16 in the second. The third was slightly better, but only near the finish.
“I was s***ing my pants”- Alexander Zverev
Carlos Alcaraz was able to vary things up, and it coincided with Zverev’s poor performance, in which he offered him lots of chances. He was able to win by a score of 6-4. Alcaraz played excellent tennis in the fourth set, but Zverev was able to stay in it courtesy of outstanding serving and smart play. At 4-4, he gained the break he needed, and at 5-4, he had a chance to serve it out. Alcaraz was up 6-5 when he failed.
Zverev won his service game and we went into a tiebreak. It was one hell of a tiebreak between them as Zverev had a fairly decent chance of winning up early 2-0. Alcaraz made it 2-2 and then had a 6-5 lead serving for the set. He failed to close it out and Zverev was able to do it 9-7.
In his on-court interview, Alexander Zverev said, “I was s***ing my pants. I knew I had to play my best tennis today from the start on. He kept coming back. He’s an incredible player; I told him at the net that he will win this tournament a lot of times, not only once. I hope I can win it before he starts beating us all and we have no chance at all!”
