Alexander Zverev recently lost to Daniil Medvedev in the Round of 16 of the 2023 Italian Open. Alexander Zverev has been ranked as high as ATP World No.2 and was in the top 10 continuously from July 2017 to November 2022. Daniil Medvedev claimed his 9th victory against Alexander Zverev in the Round of 16 Match.
It was a tough schedule for Zverev as his Round of 32 match against J.J. Wolf was completed in the morning due to a delay by rain. Zverev faced a horrific ankle injury last year and is lucky to be able to play tennis normally. He is yet to regain his previous form and he will drop out of the Top.50 rankings if he doesn’t perform well in the Roland-Garros.
Zverev already dropped to No.27 after his loss against Medvedev. “I’m still 1000 kilometres away. To say you’re back you have to win at least once and I don’t do that. I’m out earlier than I would like to be. I’m kind of not able to go any further in the tournament right now”, he said after his defeat at the Italian Open. “I have to win and then that will solve [a lot of problems]. I don’t know what to say anymore. At the moment this year I’m probably playing the worst tennis since 2015, 2016.”, he added.
Zverev has a record of 14-13 in 2023 and his record on clay stands at 6-4. He is a German favourite and the fans had expected more of him. The 2023 French Open is approaching and his stats are not convincing. He will face a ranking nightmare if he faces an early exit in Paris.
Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev bury the hatchet

Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev solved their conflict after they shared contentious words multiple times during the Monte-Carlos Masters. Daniil Medvedev said that everything was fine between them now.
“Talking about Monte-Carlo [incident], we talked about it afterward, so I think everything is fine. Yeah, it seems like everything is fine for both of us. You know, I lost a match against Holger [Rune] when I was speaking about this incident, he lost a match against me. It happens,” said Daniil Medvedev.
He also added that they are both competitors and they have a game the next day. This was said by Medvedev before the Round of 16 match. He added that there could be another feud between them in the heat of the battle but it is just on the court.
