Alexander Zverev can replace Daniil Medvedev as World No. 1 before the US Open without even playing

Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev

Alexander Zverev is a German professional tennis player whose career peaks include titles at the 2018 and the 2021 ATP Finals and a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The German is being called one of the rising stars in world tennis, Zverev’s young age made experts list him among the top stars in future. The German was raised in a Tennis family, his brother is also a tennis player and his father too played tennis.

Zverev has missed some important tournaments this year including Wimbledon as well. The German is missing out on action since the semi-final against Rafael Nadal in the French Open 2022 where he underwent an ankle injury mid-game and is currently recovering from it. Zverev injured himself while sprinting after a shot late in the second set against Nadal, that’s when he fell to the ground, grabbing his right ankle, and wailing in agony which forced him to retire from the match.

Alexander Zverev could reach the No. 1 spot by mid-August and it relies on Daniil Medvedev’s performance

Alexander Zverev

Zverev, the world No. 2 (with 6850 ranking points) is only behind Daniel Medvedev (7775 ranking points) in the ATP singles rankings. With the long North American season awaits, we could be seeing many ups and downs in the rankings.

There are some scenarios which could be taking the German to the No. 1 spot by 15th August even if he misses Canada Open where 1000 ranking points are up for grab. The possibility of Zverev reaching the top spot depends largely on Medvedev’s performance in the upcoming tournaments which are Los Cabos Open and the Canadian Open.

Zverev could be ranked No.1 by mid-August unless Medvedev reaches; the final at Los Cabos, the quarter-finals at the Canadian Open, or the semi-finals at Los Cabos with the third round at the Canadian Open. If the Russian misses out on any of the three scenarios then nothing can bar the German from becoming the No.1 tennis player by August 15th.

Zverev’s fans would be happy to see their man go all the way to the top but all of these scenarios are unlikely to happen from the Russian’s end because he won’t let it slip away and he is hungry to perform at the top level since he missed out on Wimbledon because of the ban on Russian players.
