Another late-night thriller at Melbourne Park as two top-10 players battle it out for the final spot in the semi-finals. The big server, Alexander Zverev, was up against No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz.
Ending the 11th day and the quarter-finals of the 2024 Australian Open, both players managed to glue the audience to their seats as they played a thriller of a match. What started out as an easy victory for Zverev turned out a tad bit harder as the No. 2 seed tried to make a comeback.
Unfortunately, it was not his day, as Zverev zoomed past the Spaniard to make it to the Australian Open semi-finals. Having not been able to close out the match in the third set, the German revealed that he was delighted to do so in the fourth set.
Acknowledging the degree of his win, Zverev expressed his delight over winning the match.
I’m playing one of the best players in the world. Especially over the last 2 years.. He’s been number 1 or number 2. He’s won 2 grand slams. When you’re up 6-1 6-3 5-2 you start thinking. We’re all human. It’s a great honor to play guys like him. When you start winning, your brain starts going. It’s not always helpful… very happy to have finished the match.Said a happy Zverev to the psot match interview
Furthermore, the German opened up about how his brain went haywire with thoughts on the verge of closing out a match and ultimately delayed his win by a set.

Alexander Zverev was up against Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
The Spaniard entered the match as a huge favorite after a remarkable 2023. Despite the predictions, Zverev pulled off a blinder start that kept him in the lead. With a 6-1, 6-3, 5-1 lead, Zverev was unable to close out the match, allowing the World No. 2 to comeback and seize the moment.
With Alcaraz making a comeback in the third set, the vibes of the stadium changed in favor of the 20-year-old. As tension rose, both the players were pushing each other to their limits with some magnificent shots.
However, it was the German who prevailed at last with 28 winners and marked his spot in the semi-finals. After a huge win, Zverev moves on to play his long-term rival, Daniil Medvedev, for a spot in the finals. With history between the two, another intense match is loading as the Australian Open will soon start its semi-final matches.
