“He has absolutely dominated,” Alexander Zverev lauds Novak Djokovic as he gets closer to breaking Steffi Graf’s record
Alexander Zverev lauds Novak Djokovic for breaking each of the tennis records one by one.
Alexander Zverev, Steffi Graf and Novak Djokovic
German World No.16 Alexander Zverev applauded the incredible achievements of Serbian World No.1 Novak Djokovic. He was speaking at a press conference during the Qatar Open before the showdown against British veteran Andy Murray in Round two. Zverev will be looking to get back into rhythm after the freak ankle injury that occurred during the French Open 2022.
“He’s surpassing Steffi, so as a German, obviously I always loved her having that record, but credits to Novak. I think that shows how great he is. I’m sure that he’s going to break a few more records, to be honest. I’m not sure there are many left, but the ones that are left, maybe he will,” the German said during the press conference.
Zverev continued on how the Serbian dominated the game in the past years and how consistent he is “I think over the last 10, 12 years he has absolutely dominated tennis. There is a reason why he’s been consistently at the top of the game. That shows us with this record, from male or female tennis players, he’s going to be the most weeks at No. 1.“
Alexander Zverev will take on Andy Murray in the second round
The German World No.16 Alexander Zverev was playing some of his best tennis during the past years before the freak ankle injury sustained during the French Open 2022. Zverev has not been able to get back into top form since his return to the ATP Tour. His Australian Open run ended in the second round itself. Then he played ATP Rotterdam but there also his campaign ended in round two.
At the Qatar Open,Zverev will play Andy Murray in the second round. The German got a bye in the first round whereas Murray had to save three match points to overcome Lorenzo Sonego in the first round. This will be the fifth encounter between them. Murray leads the head-to-head 3-1 but their last meeting was won by Zverev in straight sets.
Murray vs Zverev is still likely to be an even contest even though Murray has high confidence and Alexander Zverev is struggling to regain his form. It seems that the odds are close to even for this highly anticipated match in Qatar.
