The man of the hour, Alexander Zverev, stood tall in the center of the Rod Laver Arena as fans lauded him for a remarkable victory. In another late-night showdown, the German was up against World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals, as both of them fought hard for their spot in the top 4.

This is a memorable and emotional victory for No. 6 seed Alexander Zverev, who registered a top-rank victory after his comeback. Back in 2022, Zverev was sidelined from tennis for rolling over his ankle in the French Open.

He was up against the ‘King of Clay’ Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals of the Open and lost his moment to shine to an injury. A dominant Zverev had to leave the French Open after an incredible run.

What devastated him more was losing his chance at becoming World No. 1. After inching down near the top rank, the German was just a win away from securing the top spot. With that injury, he also lost his platter-served chance to become World No. 1.

Having in the back of my mind that I needed to win 1 match in the next 3 months to become world #1.. that was the most painful part for me.
Said Zverev during the post-match interview.

From the get-go, Zverev put the Spaniard on the back foot, not allowing him to control the match. This gave him a huge momentum boost, giving Zverev a clear chance to close out the match in straight sets. However, the resilient Alcaraz managed to come back before falling again in the fourth set.

This marked a huge victory for the German who had to clay his way back into the top 10 ranking.

After coming within touching distance of the No.1 spot, Zverev saw a dip in ranking due to the injury and eventually had to start afresh. Starting the year wonderfully at the United Cup, Zverev entered the tournament as one of the Top 10 seeds.

Starting address, the 26-year-old managed to re-enter the top 10 rankings, as he seems hopeful for a first-ever title. The German will now face his rival Daniil Medvedev in an all-exciting semi-final clash to book a spot in the top 2.
