World No. 3 Alexander Zverev and World No. 5 Rafael Nadal are battling for a place in the finals of the 2022 French Open with the two players meeting in a Grand Slam match for the second time in what is their 10th career meeting. Despite Zverev breaking Nadal in the very first game of the first set, he could not capitalise on it as Nadal won a lengthy tiebreaker at 10-8 to clinch the first set in 91 minutes.

The second set was no different as both players went back and forth at each other in the hope of clinching the set. Zverev needed the set to stay alive in the match while Nadal was looking to extend his lead in the semi-finals and move closer towards his 14th French Open finals but an ugly incident in the 12th game of the second set.

With Nadal serving to take the second set into a tiebreaker, Nadal had a 40-15 lead which was reduced to 40-30 by Zverev. The German however could not hold on as while making a forehand return to Nadal, he slipped and fell down with the shot also landing outside giving the point and game to Nadal.

Nadal did not celebrate and was looking at Zverev the entire time as the German screamed in pain rolling in the dirt having held his leg and calling for his medical team. The chair umpire suspended the match as the medics rushed to the spot to help the injured Sascha who was almost brought to tears by his fall.
