Alexis Ohanian has shared the logo for the first team in TGL, Los Angeles Golf Club which is owned by the Reddit co-founder and his wife as well as tennis legend Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams. Ohanian revealed the logo on social media on Monday. Notably, Los Angeles Golf Club was the first team for the inaugural edition of TGL, a golf league started by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy that will operate in partnership with the PGA Tour.

Eight months after the league was announced, Ohanian announced that he along with the Williams sisters will be owning a team in the league. “[Los Angeles] embodies the intersection of sports, technology, and entertainment, making it an ideal backdrop for the innovation and excitement we aim to bring to the world of golf and its fans,” Ohanian had said while announcing the news.

Now, four months after the announcement, he revealed the logo for the team. “Final lock-ups. The team did a hell of a job,” Ohanian wrote while sharing the logo. He also explained the details.

“They showed me the driver and I am an absolute fan of the subtle decision to use that club in particular, as well as putting 3 grooves on it (for our 3 @TGL players). If you know me, I’m obsessed with these kinds of logo decisions. DETAILS MATTER. This is why I love design.”

What is TGL where Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams’ team will take part?

TGL is a golf league and a product of TMRW Sports, co-founded by the duo of Woods and McIlroy along with Mike McCarley. The league claims to be “an innovative golf league that fuses advanced tech and live action in prime time”. The league will consist of six teams with four players in each of them. Each TGL match will feature three players competing for each team in a modern match-play format.

The first four of six TGL teams have been announced. Los Angeles Golf Club, owned by Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams, and Venus Williams was the first one. Atlanta Drive GC, owned by Arthur M. Blank, a Boston team owned by Fenway Sports Group, and a New York club owned by Steven Cohen have also been confirmed as the original six clubs.

The matches at TGL will be played at a custom-built arena in Palm Beach, Florida. It is said that players will hit shots on a virtual screen first. They will then move to a short game complex at the center of the stadium and every shot will be played within a two-hour window on the hybrid virtual golf course. There will be 15 games per season that will precede the semifinal and then the championship-winning match.
