Renowned tech entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian took to X recounting the harrowing experience of his wife, tennis superstar Serena Williams, on how she struggled during her pregnancy. The businessman spoke about this to advocate compulsory paid leaves for new parents.

Ohanian experienced new difficulties with the birth of his one-month-old daughter, Adira. He took to social media to update the world about his wife and newly born daughter. His advocacy for compulsory paid leaves for new parents stems from the personal ordeal the couple went through. He recalls how his other child, Olympia, and he had to watch Serena fight for her life due to pregnancy complications.

“With Olympia, watching my wife fight for her life, I realized not having paid leave was unconscionable. Sure, all my employees had it, but the vast majority of Americans don’t — and that includes new moms,” recalled the entrepreneur on X.

American tennis legend Serena Williams’ husband has always fought for compulsory paid leaves for new parents. In his recent tweet, he also shared how he felt extremely grateful for receiving paid leaves during Olympia’s birth and is fighting for others to receive the same treatment as well.

“If you know me, you know I don’t like just talking, I believe in action. I started this fight when Olympia was born because I realized how lucky I was and we took the fight to Congress and did get 12 weeks of parental leave for all federal employees (and recently including the military!) — we have much more to do,” Alexis wrote in his tweet.

Paid parental leaves are essential for new parents as they can spend time taking proper care of the pregnancy. Alexis’ plea is straightforward to allow parents the right to be there for their children without worrying about their jobs.
