“All hope lost?” Novak Djokovic’s absence from the US Open almost confirmed after he clears his schedule on his website
Novak Djokovic
The tennis world currently has its eyes glued on the Novak Djokovic saga as it nears its end with the commencement of the US Open. Djokovic has refused to get vaccinated while vaccination is mandatory to enter the USA. The US government or the CDC haven’t changed any rules and it looks likely that so will be the case for the next few days at least.
There was a small spark for Djokovic and his fans when the CDC labeled both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals as the same and also said that they will monitor and make amends in the current ruling. But to date, there haven’t been any amends and the rules stay the same- get vaccinated to enter the US borders.
The US Open main draw ceremony will be held in a day’s time and Djokovic hasn’t withdrawn yet. If he doesn’t withdraw voluntarily, he will be placed in the draw but eventually, if he doesn’t compete, he will be replaced by a lucky loser or a qualifier. But chances are that Djokovic will withdraw before the draw to avoid any sort of last-minute chaos like the Australian Open earlier this year.
To support this claim, Djokovic has cleared his schedule on his website. “There are no scheduled events at the moment,” the website reads under Djokovic’s schedule.
What lies ahead for Novak Djokovic?
With Djokovic’s absence from the US Open almost confirmed, he will directly be seen on the court in a month’s time at the Laver Cup alongside Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. He would also be seen in the Davis Cup representing Serbia. He will then travel to Asia for the ATP 500 event in Tokyo and will then eventually play the ATP 500 event in Vienna and the Paris Masters before closing the season with the ATP Finals.
