World No. 47 Nick Kyrgios‘ return to the hardcourt swing isn’t successful as the Australian is forced to withdraw from the singles event of the 2022 Atlanta Open. Having gone on a small break since his runner-up finish at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, Nick returned to action in Atlanta in the doubles event with partner Thanasi Kokkinakis as the pair, seeded 2nd, defeated the French pair of Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in straight-sets to advance in the second round.

Nick however injured his knee which will rule him out of the singles event this week while he hopes to continue to play the Doubles. Nick had also withdrawn from the Doubles in Wimbledon this year despite the pair being one of the title favourites given their exploits in the 2022 Australian Open earlier this year. Given the pair stands a chance to make it to the ATP Finals later this year, Nick will push his limits a little to play the doubles but his singles campaign has ended before it began.

Although Nick has impressed a lot of tennis fans with his performances this year, especially during the Grass swing, the Australian continues to be a controversial figure with some sections of fans and his withdrawal just became another opportunity for them to mock him as he will not be competing in both events that he had signed up for.
