An INVINCIBLE Iga Swiatek wins her second French Open title and equals Venus Williams’s record of the highest Open Era win streak

Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek wrapped up the final of the French Open 2022 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Coco Gauff. Swiatek is now tied with Venus Williams for the longest win streak of 35 matches in the Open Era. With the French Open title, she has now won 6 consecutive tournaments. Swiatek has won two Grand Slams and both of them are the French Open. While Gauff couldn’t beat Swiatek, she did well to reach her maiden French Open final and even managed to escape Swiatek’s bagels.

Gauff, the 18-year-old challenger had a nervous start to the final, as she made a double fault in her opening game and was broken twice in two games. Swiatek made another flying start going 4-0 before Gauff held her serve but was broken again in her fourth service game. Swiatek ended the first set with a thumping 6-1 victory. Gauff started the second set brilliantly as she took a 2-0 lead, but Swiatek came back stronger to break back and win the match in straight sets.
