Andrew Richardson is a former British player and current coach. He was the person who coached Emma Raducanu to her 2021 US Open victory. This was an extraordinary achievement, but he was let go immediately. Andrew Richardson has been off the radar ever since.
Andrew Richardson had mentioned that he planned to continue working with Emma Raducanu. He coached Raducanu when she was 11 and continued until she was 13. He later joined her at the age of 20, after the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Emma Raducanu later became the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam at the US Open.
Two weeks after her victory at the US Open, Emma Raducanu shockingly declared that she has decided to split with Andrew Richardson as she needed someone with more experience. Richardson said,” The fact of the matter is that I had a nine-week trial contract that both Emma and I thought was a good idea to see how we would get on, and it ran through to the end of the US Open, stopping immediately afterward,” explained Richardson to the Daily Mail.“There was a period of time after that when I was keen to renegotiate the contract. I wanted to carry on, and I had a plan that I wanted to put in place for Emma.”
Andrew Richardson expressed that his contract was ended over a brief call, but he has since moved on. He denied the rumors about him coaching his son. He later went on to say that he was happy with all the experience he had gained and was currently busy with life.
Tracy Austin mentioned that Emma Raducanu letting go of Andrew Richardson was a mistake
Tracy Austin, who is a former world no. 1, mentioned back in October 2021 that Emma Raducanu’s split with Andrew Richardson was a mistake. She suggested that Raducanu get back to her former coach.
Tracy Austin said, “I just put myself in Emma’s shoes, and I kind of know what it feels. Everything just comes at you so quickly. All of a sudden, everybody wants a piece of you; they want demands on your time; they want a photo shoot here. She fired her coach,” ]
Austin further added, “That’s not something I think that she should have changed quite yet because there are too many changes already. I think the foundation is so important—your family, your agent.”
Raducanu’s reason for splitting was not substantial, as Andrew Richardson helped her win a major trophy. Richardson was not given another chance despite making no mistakes and was let go in the name of not having enough experience.
