Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev found him in hot waters after he released a statement on Monday. As Rublev thanked people for their support in the default controversy, fans berated the Russian for not apologizing for his behavior on the court.
Rublev issued a statement after the ATP decided to reinstate his prize money and ranking points following an appeal for the same from the player. The 26-year-old thanked the appeal committee and also the people who stood by him in this saga.
I want to thank the appeal committee for approving my appeal and changing course on the ATPs initial decision of disqualifying me from the Dubai semifinal and taking away the rankings points and prize money I earned last week. I hope that in the future, the ATP will take a closer look at this rule and make changes to it.Andrey Rublev said in the statement released.
The Russian ace rued not getting a chance to finish his match and also talked about the need for a video review. Andrey Rublev also promised to learn from this mistake and become a better player as well as a person.
While I am disappointed that I wasn't able to finish my semifinal in Dubai, I am grateful for all the support I had from you the last two days, I received a lot of messages. Thank you to everyone supporting me, I promise I will learn from this and will try to be a better player and better person.The Russian ace stated.
Tennis fans not happy about Andrey Rublev not apologizing for his behavior
While Andrey Rublev releasing a statement and clarifying his stance was a welcome move, the Russian star not apologizing for his behavior did not sit well with the fans.
Rublev, not taking accountability and not apologizing for screaming in the line judge’s face, angered the fans who went on to criticize Rublev for not admitting his mistake.

It is to be seen if Andrey Rublev will release another statement apologizing for his behavior or if the tennis star will move on without acknowledging what happened in Dubai. Rublev will be next seen at the Indian Wells Open, in his round of 64 match on March 9.
