Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas
The Russian 25-year-old Andrey Rublev breaks his silence about Stefanos Tsitsipas‘ old remarks about him. These old comments were earlier highlighted by Daniil Medvedev after beating Rublev in the Dubai Open finals: 6-2,6-2. He stated without mentioning the Greek’s name that there was a player who mocked Rublev that he doesn’t have enough weapons to stay on top of the world and it is totally wrong. Rublev has spoken about it as well now.
As the Russian World No.6 said, “I was a bit late over there, to be honest. In the beginning, I didn’t understand what he meant. Then I say, Who was the one that was saying that? Then I realized (smiling). I was a bit late order.“
“I don’t know, not much to say. When Stefano said that, I didn’t even take it personal because I know I’m also emotional, and I know how you can say some things and do some things when you are under the emotions. I mean, you don’t need to walk far away, you can see some moments of my behavior on court that are not really nice.“
Continuing the train of thought, Rublev said about the apology Greek gave to him later, “Of course, I understand him at that moment, so I didn’t even take it personal. Plus, on top of that, later on he come to me and he apologized. Even more – how you say – good from him that he did it.”

Andrey Rublev will drop to world number 7 in the ATP rankings
Russian World No.6 Andrey Rublev was overpowered by the former World No.1 in the finals of the Dubai Open. Medvedev was incredibly stable throughout the match without giving any free points to his fellow Russian. Even though Rublev hit only 10 unforced errors after hitting 22 winners in the match, it was not enough to give any justice to the final score as Medvedev had the befitting reply of 27 winners and 6 unforced errors.
This loss also means that the 25-year-old will drop to world number 7 in the rankings. Compatriot Daniil Medvedev will take his 6th position instead. Rublev also drops to 2-5 in head-to-head against Medvedev now.
In the meantime, Medvedev is back to his best winning 14 matches in a row and winning 3 ATP titles in as many weeks starting from the Rotterdam Open, followed by Doha Open. The straight-set victory in the final also means that the Russian wins his third Dubai Open title without losing a set.
