Andrey Rublev‘s recent comments about him being the ‘real father’ of compatriot Daniil Medvedev‘s daughter have elicited intriguing reactions from tennis fans online.
The Russian duo is currently underway their performance for Team Eagle at the World Tennis League, an exhibition event in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Rublev-Medvedev alongside Sofia Kenin and Mirra Andreeva locked horns with Team Kites on Thursday, 21 December.
In a post-match on-court interview following their clash, the interviewer asked Andrey Rublev about his relationship with the one-time Grand Slam singles champion, indicating that he is the godfather to his countryman’s daughter, Alisa.
In his response, Rublev hilariously remarked that it was the other way around, with him being the “real father” and the fellow Russian as Alisa’s “godfather“.

Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev recently talked about maintaining a close and healthy relationship with childhood friend Andrey Rublev despite squaring off against the latter multiple times on the tour.
The pair recently squared off during their 2023 ATP Finals campaign, where Medvedev downed the fellow Russian in straight sets. In a post-match interview following his victory, the 28-year-old reserved a few words for his relationship with Rublev and highlighted that he doesn’t need more than a few hours to recover from the match and laugh it out with his mate.
In general, I need probably one hour, around this. Depends on the match. Sometimes two. Sometimes 30 minutes. I kind of laugh about it. For sure I will be disappointed, but I can talk to people, laugh about it.Daniil Medvedev said
Medvedev and Rublev have locked horns nine times during their time on the tour, with the former leading their h2h with a 7-2 score. It is worth noting that the 26-year-old hasn’t set off the former World No. 1 in their last two meets.
