World No.2, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Russian Andrey Rublev in the second match of the group stage phase of the ATP Finals in Turin. The Spaniard secured a straight sets victory over the World No.5 to snap his 3-match losing streak.
Carlos Alcaraz overcame Andrey Rublev in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 to keep his hopes alive in the ongoing ATP Finals. The Russian, however, looked visibly frustrated as he inflicted harm upon himself by smashing his racket on his legs during his match against the Spaniard. He could not control his temper as the match was getting out of his hands.

The duo played their first-ever match against each other and Carlos Alcaraz already leads the head-to-head 1-0. Rublev and Carlos were more or less playing at par until the 11th game of the first set, where the Spaniard got his first break. He went on to win the opening set, 7-5, and comfortably won the second set 6-2 to proceed further into the ATP Finals. Andrey Rublev, who is known not to take a loss in a good way, smashed his racket in frustration. What is worse was he smashed the racket on his own body, inflicting self-harm.
This is not the first time Rublev has shown his anger and frustration during a match. His recent tournaments in Shanghai and Vienna have also showcased his short-tempered attitude. The Russian could not control his emotions, as the reigning Wimbledon champion won his first-ever match at the ATP Finals.
Andrey Rublev injured himself while smashing his racket earlier this year
This is not the first time Rublev has smashed his racket and ended up hurting himself. In a bizarre incident, the Russian smashed his racket continuously on his knees after his semi-final loss against Jannik Sinner at the Vienna Open earlier this year. He hit himself to such an extent that he cut his own knees which started bleeding as well.

The Russian must definitely try and control his emotions on court as it does get the better of him in matches. Andrey Rublev, otherwise has an impressive personality off the court and is someone who is humble as well. He is dubbed as one of the nicest guys on the tour and has almost zero haters.
It will really be good to see the World No.6 contain himself on the court as he is capable of much better things in his career. Such brain fade moments may cause a bigger problem for him in the long run.
