Andrey Rublev played his latest match in the quarter-finals at the ongoing Masters event in Paris. The Russian was pitted against the 13th seed, Alex de Minaur at the event. Following the end of the match, Rublev joined the list of players to criticize the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for their scheduling of the matches.
Rublev faced Australian No.1, Alex de Minaur, in his Round of 8 match that started last night. The clash, however, stretched till the next day and went on to end at 1:00 a.m. today. Rublev ousted de Minaur in a three-setter, rallying past him, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, to reach the semi-finals at the ATP 1000 event.
The 26-year-old Russian will now face World No.1, Novak Djokovic later today. The poor scheduling of the matches at the ongoing event has, however, left Rublev with little time before the next round. The player expressed his disappointment with the ATP in an on-court interview after his latest match.
I need to have dinner, treatment, take a shower, I don’t know when I’ll go to sleep. 4? 5? Crazy. Amazing schedule. Thank you. And I’m council of ATP. And ATP, we are together.
Rublev is left with little time to even rest and recuperate, let alone to prepare himself for his upcoming face-off. Rublev and Djokovic are set to lock horns at 12:00 p.m. local time(ET) today.
ATP faces criticism for ‘poor’ scheduling at the Paris Masters
Earlier, German ace Alexander Zverev and PTPA co-founder Vasek Pospisil had joined tennis star Casper Ruud, in calling out the ATP for their disastrous scheduling at Bercy. Zverev was the latest to attack the ATP after he lost his match against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the duo’s third-round clash.
In a social media post, Vasek Pospisil stated on X,
The @atptour has never cared about the players.
Pospisil went on to share his own experience. Casper Ruud had written in a post earlier how the ATP could give one of the top players only about 14 hours of rest between two games as he went on to criticize the organization.
