Russian World No.6 Andrey Rublev showed great grit and determination to win his first ATP-1000 Masters title in Monte Carlo. The final score against the Danish World No.9 Holger Rune was 5-7, 6-2, 7-5. The Russian was trailing 1-4 in the third set and had to show the mentality of the real champion to win his maiden Masters title.

The overwhelmed Russian had great support from the crowd despite being a Russian. He said in the press conference, “To have this support, I feel really, really grateful, because, I don’t know, it’s not easy to get support in general. To get a good support is really tough. I’m really grateful for this, that I’m having this support and I had this support this week, previous weeks, and I start to feel it more and more. I’m just grateful, and I want to thank every single person.”

Russian World No.6 Andrey Rublev’s wait for the maiden Masters title got finally over as he showed immense mental strength to come back from behind in the final set of the title clash against Holger Rune. In the semi-finals, Rublev faced off against American Taylor Fritz in a thrilling contest. Despite a valiant effort from Fritz, Rublev managed to claw his way past his opponent and secure a place in the final. The end score was 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.

The Russian had a win-loss record of 13-8 in the hard courts this season. Now he has moved to 5-0 in clay court. This will make him a strong competitor for the rest of the clay court swing as well. With Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz yet to start their clay court swing, and Novak Djokovic struggling to hit top form, the tennis world is looking forward to some new rivalries on the clay courts this season.

Rublev‘s win in Monte-Carlo marks his first tour-level title of the season and his biggest title to date. The victory has also helped him move up seven spots to fifth in the Pepperstone ATP Live Race to Turin.
