Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev tasted some success in 2023 as the 26-year-old won two tour-level titles while also making it to a few semifinals and finals. On the back of his consistent performances throughout the season, Rublev also qualified for the 2023 ATP Finals. However, he could not leave a big impact as the Russian lost all the matches. He was quite frustrated and it was visible in his on-court actions.

The 26-year-old was also seen hurting himself when he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in his second group-stage match. Rublev hit himself multiple times with his racket after he lost to the Spaniard. This led to severe criticism for the youngster from all corners, including Tracy Austin, Andy Roddick, and Greg Rusedski. Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios lent a helping hand to the Russian.

The Australian ace, while commentating for the Tennis Channel, said that Rublev should be proud of himself for an amazing season. Kyrgios then offered help to the Russian ace in dealing with any mental aspect. While Rublev did not respond then, he has talked about Kyrgios’ offer ahead of the UTS event in London. Rublev said that Kyrgios’ offer made him smile.

I work on this every day. There are many things in life that stress us out and make us very angry. There are ways to stay calm when you want to blow things up. Then, my coach gives me some psychology lessons. I saw that Nick (Kyrgios) had offered to help me and that made me smile. Nick is a very talented player, one of the most talented players in tennis, so I can say we need him because he brings a lot of fun to tennis.
Andrey Rublev said while speaking to the press ahead of UTS event.

He will compete with some top players on tour. Frances Tiafoe, Marin Čilić, Mackenzie McDonald, and Karen Khachanov are the confirmed names so far for the Hong Kong Open.

It is worth mentioning that the likes of Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi Michael Chang, Rod Laver, Ken Rosewall, Jimmy Connors, Ivan Lendl, Jim Courier, and Juan Carlos Ferrero have been crowned as the champions in previous editions of the tournament. Rublev will also look to get his name etched in the history.

The World No.5 did not end his 2023 season on a high, but he will hope to start afresh and go bonkers right from the start of the season. Rublev has also been drawn into the main draw of the 2024 Australian Open and the Russian will look to leave a big impact this time around.
