The Russian professional tennis star Andrey Rublev won his Serbian Open finals against the World number 1 Novak Djokovic on Sunday. Rublev started his campaign against Jiri Leheka and then defeated Taro Daniel in the quarterfinals. In the semis, Rublev faced the Italian Fabio Fognini. He won all these matches comfortably.
Rublev then faced Novak in the finals and won the first set. The fight for the second set was tough and somehow Novak managed to stay in the game. in the next set Rublev completely destroyed Djokovic and won the Serbian Open title with a score of 6-2, 6-7(7), 6-0, to lift his third trophy of the season maintaining a 100% win record in finals this year.
After winning the finals, the Russian was asked about his take on the GOAT debate between Novak, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. With the debate between the Big-3, never-ending, Rublev also made his say clear on who he prefers.
“It is very interesting! Those two are the best in history, and now they are fighting for one of them to somehow prevail and be alone on that throne. In my opinion, they are both the best ever. It is important to see that they continue to enjoy tennis, and we will soon see what lies ahead.
“Of course, he will try to play a few more tournaments, but to be honest, I think it is very difficult to return after such a long period of absence from the field,” said Rublev when asked about Federer who has been out since Wimbledon last year after undergoing a knee injury
Novak Djokovic played his first final of the season against Andrey Rublev

Nadal was having a great start to the season with a 20-0 win streak until the Indian Wells finals in which he lost to Taylor Fritz. After the match, Nadal was diagnosed with a rib injury he got in the semi-finals against Carlos Alcaraz. He has been out of action since then. Everyone is hoping to see him in the Madrid Masters but it can be risky for the 13-time Roland Garros champion.
Djokovic on the other hand had a quiet season and was denied to play the Australian Open due to his non-Covid-19 vaccination. He won the Australian Open last year but couldn’t defend it this year because of this controversy. He lost in Dubai and Monte Carlo. He somehow managed to reach the finals of the Serbian Open with tough wins but lost to Rublev on home turf as he continues his wait for his first title of the season.
