In tennis, emotions often run high on the court as well as off the court. While on-court rivalries are common, it usually takes a very heated moment to spiral into alleged mistreatment by fans. Such an incident occurred following Rublev’s match against Monfils.

Russian tennis ace Andrey Rublev recently played down allegations of mistreatment of fans at the 2023 US Open. There was huge fan support for his opponent, Gael Monfils, so after the incident, there were many rumors about fans mistreating him, but Rublev just turned all of those false allegations down.

Rublev easily beat Monfils to advance to the third round. Fans thought that Monfils had already lost after two easy defeats, but then Gael came back to win the third set and unfortunately lost the fourth set very cheaply. The final score was 4-6, 3-6, 6-3, 1-6. Even though there was huge fan support, Rublev did not interpret it as mistreatment and just considered it favoritism. “Gael is such a legend; it’s obvious he’d have all the support,” said the Russian.
