A few weeks after releasing his first collection of his new clothing line, Rublo, Andrey Rublev reveals the motivation behind his fashion brand. The Russian admitted that he wants to inspire kids with his clothing brand.

In February, Rublev agent Galo Blanco revealed that the tennis player opted not to renew his contract with Nike because he was committed to making his Rublo a popular brand among kids. He has already donated 100 percent of the profit from his ‘Play for the Kids‘ collection to Children’s charities.

Speaking to the National News, the Russian said he wanted to do something for the kids that would have a message.

I wanted to do something with clothes that would have a meaning or message. And then on top of that, the more I was traveling, I saw how families or kids are living and a lot of them are suffering. In one moment I just thought, why not try to do a mix of both things that are important to me?

Rublev further said:

I want to do it more open so the people know exactly how much money we could collect, maybe in a way to have a few options [for charities] and for people to choose which one they prefer, so they feel that they are more involved, that it’s not something that I tried to lie or cheat.

Rublev added that he realized from a young age that he was in a privileged position while many others were not, and that has been his biggest motivation so far. With the brand still growing, the Russian is making a great off the court.

Andrey Rublev eliminated from Dubai Championships after unsportsmanlike conduct

Rublev was eliminated in the semifinals of the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships by Alexander Bublik. The game came to a shocking end when the Russian defaulted for unsportsmanlike conduct while trailing, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (5), 5-6.

In the final set of the match, Bublik had held for a 6-5 lead over Rublev. However, due to frustration, the Russian smashed his racket and screamed in the face of a linesman at the change of ends.

A Russian-speaking official told the tournament supervisor Roland Herfel that Rublev had yelled an obscene word in Russian at the linesman. Rublev was confronted by Herfel and other officials about the claim, which Rublev denied insisting that he hadn’t spoken Russian to the linesman.

Immediately Rublev was defaulted, and even when Bublik demanded that the match continue, his request was turned down by the officials. The situation didn’t go well with the crowd as they booed the officials while a disappointed Rublev left the court.
